MY 25TH BIRTHDAY
As some of you may know, this past weekend I celebrated my 25th birthday. And to kick off this big year, I got to spend it with some of my closest friends and family. I am so blessed to be surrounded by strong and loving people that always keep me grounded and smiling.
On Saturday evening, the night before my birthday, a small group of close friends met up at my friends Hilary and Chris' apartment in downtown LA. I honestly had no idea what to expect, but my husband and friends did such a beautiful job planning and decorating a great party. (Thanks Ness and Hills!) I walked in to see balloons on the floor, a photo wall, a candy station, wine and champagne...a few of my favorite things! I squealed with joy as they immediately popped some champagne to toast. We drank, danced to music, and laughed as the night was off to a beautiful start. And as if the night couldn't have gotten any better, my sweet friends Shannon and Dan brought out a bunch of In-N-Out...burgers and fries galore! It's safe to say that I have the greatest friends EVER who truly know the way to my heart.
After we ate and I blew out my candles and opened gifts, it was time to hit the town. My amazing hubby got us a table at a speakeasy called La Descarga. I was so excited because I've never been to a speakeasy before! When we arrived, the front was pretty unassuming, just a lit marquee and a nearby taco stand (more on the tacos later). Once we checked in with the doorman, we were led up a flight of stairs only to meet a well dressed lady at a desk of what looked to be like an old hotel lobby. She stood up to greet us, checked our names off the list, then proceeded to walk us through an armoire into the secret night club...it was so cool! The bar had a great Cuban theme with delicious drinks to match. Our drink of choice was a mojito punch bowl that the group shared and thoroughly enjoyed. Every so often, a burlesque dancer would come out to dance to live music by a talented Latin band. There was even a separate cigar room behind the bar that was packed to the brim. To say that this speakeasy was a blast would be an understatement!
After counting down until midnight struck and everyone shouted happy birthday, we started to head out. While the bar alone was pretty on point, the real star of the show was the taco stand outside. La Descarga doesn't serve food, so they strategically placed some great Mexican eats right out front. We had no idea what a gem this stand was until that first bite of the pork tacos. NO WORDS CAN DESCRIBE HOW GOOD THEY WERE. I had about four, not proud of it, but it was my birthday...and anything goes on your birthday! haha. I'd definitely go back just for those tacos. YUM!
The following day, I got to spend time with the fam bam. We reserved a few lanes at a bowling alley and ate lots of delicious pizza. I thought it would just be a fun way to hang with my family instead of just going to dinner. We all had a blast, even though I am clearly not meant to bowl. I did, however, manage to get a few strikes that I was very proud of! Guess it was some of that birthday luck.
Needless to say, I had the perfect birthday weekend. And it is all thanks to my beautiful husband, friends, and family. I am seriously grateful for everyone who made this birthday one I'll never forget. From all the planning to the greetings alone, I couldn't have asked for a better weekend. I am feeling so loved and ready to take on 25 stronger than ever before.
